  On National Science Day, the Government of India launched a new fellowship scheme, “VAIBHAV Fellowships,” for the Indian diaspora in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Medicine (STEMM).

  2. The VAIBHAV fellowship scheme is aimed at engaging Diaspora scientists to facilitate academic and research collaboration between Indian institutions and the best institutions in the world. The scheme is designed to engage Diaspora for the improvement of the research ecosystem in India. It is open to NRIs/PIOs/OCI working abroad, offering them adjunct/visiting faculty positions in Indian institutions/Universities.

  3. The Vaishwik Bharatiya Vaigyanik (VAIBHAV) Summit was organised in October 2020 as a global summit of Overseas and Resident Indian scientists and academicians. The Summit witnessed the participation of about 22,500 academicians and scientists from India and overseas. The summit also identified 18 verticals and 80 horizontals under a comprehensive roadmap to leverage the expertise and knowledge of global Indian researchers for addressing emerging challenges for universal development.

  4. As a follow-up to the Summit, the VAIBHAV Fellowship scheme has been launched, which envisages collaboration between scientists of the Indian Diaspora with Indian Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs), Universities, and/ or publicly funded Scientific Institutions.

  5. The first call of VAIBHAV Fellowship has been announced with starting date of 15 June 2023 and a closing date of 31 July 2023. The Applicants can download the proposal formats from websites www.dst.gov.in /www.onlinedst.gov.in and should submit the completed application form and all relevant information through the e-PMS portal of the DST. Applications would be received in on-line mode only. Physical or e-mail applications will not be considered.
